Title

Supporting Interdisciplinary competencies in a Product Lifecycle Management Scenario

Opinion

In the last years the automotive enterprises, due to the presence of increasing organisation complexity, have been characterised by the introduction of standalone IT solutions for supporting the efficient management of human resources, materials/machines, money, and information efficiently management (ERP, SCM,...). Recently the continuous request of more innovative products has obliged many companies to adopt a more integrated approach based on the Product Lifecycle Management, to have more attention on the product innovation. By the adoption of this approach, able to pay close attention to material and information flow for the product, and managing product planning and design, procurement, production, sales, maintenance, reuse, and recycling, it is possible to reduce product and process development. But while the use of standalone solutions asks the presence of vertical specialists, the use of a global integrated solution, as the PLM is, needs the presence of interdisciplinary competencies, as IT-Skills, communications, team working, in order to support the efficacy the implementation of this product based approach.
